WALKS ABOUT LATHKILL DALE
A set of seven delightful circular walks around this magnificent dale starting from the villages of Monyash, Over Haddon and Youlgreave. Comparable to famous Dovedale, Lathkill Dale cuts a canyon-like swathe through high limestone country, a place of rock spires, clear streams, secluded woods and abundant wildlife. Much of it is designated as a National Nature Reserve.
The individual walks are mainly short and easy going but each can be linked with the next one. For example you can use the route descriptions for Walks Five, Six and Seven to create a fabulous full-day circuit down Lathkill Dale from Monyash to Alport, returning via Bradford Dale and over the limestone plateau.
Five walks begin in Monyash, an idyllic village at the head of Lathkill Dale, where there is a pub and cafe. The other two walks begin at Youlgreave, a large village with plenty of shops, cafes and pubs. Alternatively you can begin those two walks, which include the most popular parts of beautiful Lathkill Dale, in Over Haddon which also has a pub and cafe.
Lathkill Dale is in the south of the Peak District National Park, close to the principal roads of A515 and A6. There are local bus services to Youlgreave and Over Haddon from Bakewell, and to Monyash from Buxton and Bakewell.
